Plywood House

South London, 2014

The project was conceived as a series of five materials and how these could be used to transform a tired Victorian home into the family's dream home. The five materials chosen were concrete, plywood, stone, brickwork and the sky. We then worked closely with the clients and workshop collaborators on delivering clean spaces that weaved their way into the existing Victorian fabric. Old and new parts of the house met and the details of these were carefully considered. The master sleeping, dreaming, dressing and bathing spaces were located in the two new loft extensions. Plywood was chosen as the single wall, floor and ceiling material in this space for its warm properties. Using the sky and natural light as a material and sculpting it into spaces made the processes in spaces a better experience for the family.
